Moving On Project

The Moving On Project has met, and exceeded, all the targets set by the Big Lottery Fund.

However, there is still more work to be done— people will continue to find themselves in a caring role, sometimes without warning, and may then struggle to deal with this on top of all the other demands on them. Others, will come to the end of a caring role and may then struggle to retain their self esteem when they feel they are not “needed” any more. The work of the Moving On Project has been valuable in providing information, assistance and advice to people in these situations as well as all other carers. The Project has also worked hard to raise awareness of carer issues throughout the city and with local employers and this work also needs to be continued. Carers will not go away and their needs are of vital importance—let’s remember that they save the UK economy billions of pounds every year. They don’t tend to speak up for themselves, rather just “getting on with it” as best they can.

As individuals, organisations and employers, we need to be aware of the issues faced by carers, whether employed or not, and attempt to help address these issues together for the benefit of all concerned.
