Is Your Organisation Interested in Achieveing PQASSO Standard?
 
PQASSO, is a the Practical Quality Assurance System for Small Organisations,is the most widely used quality assurance system within the voluntary and community sector, and has been adopted by thousands of organisations wishing to become more efficient and effective. PQASSO uses a self-assessment approach which involves people within an organisation making judgements about its performance against the PQASSO standards.
The PQASSO Quality Mark is a ‘kitemark’ to show that your organisation has met the PQASSO standards. It is designed to build on your self-assessment by having an independent external review. Achieving the PQASSO Quality Mark means that you have been externally accredited against the PQASSO standards, and you will receive the PQASSO Quality Mark logo and certificate to help you to promote and celebrate your achievement. The PQASSO Quality Mark is valid for 3 years.

Charity Law Training for Advisors of Charities
 
The Train the Advisor course was designed and piloted by Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations’ Council (EVOC) between 2008 and 2009 under contract with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), and has been delivered twice.  The overall aim of the course is to increase the compliance of small charities in Scotland with charity law and regulation.  This is achieved by addressing the following specific objectives relating to improving the quality and consistency of advice given to smaller charities:
 
·         To increase the provision of high quality advice on charity law and regulation available to small charities.
·         To provide advisors of small charities with detailed knowledge of key aspects of charity law and regulation.
·         To provide advisors of small charities with a pack containing specific resources they will use with the charities they advise.
·         To enable advisors to provide clear, correct, consistent and confident advice on charity law and regulation, ‘the four Cs’.
·         To provide a quality assurance standard on charity law and the regulation of small charities.
 
The Train the Advisor course is underpinned by the following:
 
·         Compliance with charity law and regulation needs to be set in the context of trustees acknowledging and fulfilling their wider governance responsibilities.
·         Most trustees of small charities are lay people acting in good faith.
·         Non compliance is most likely to be the result of ignorance, inexperience, competing demands and priorities or poorly functioning management committees/boards.
 
The course duration is for four full days, and the breakdown of sections is as follows:

                Becoming a charity, a guide to registration
                Staying on the Register
                References to charitable status
 
Day 2
Accounting Regulations
                Receipts and payments accounts
 
Day 3
Independent Examination
                Annual reporting to OSCR
                Annual accounts and returns
                Consents and notifications
                Charity reorganisations
 
Day 4
Being a responsible charity trustee
                Charity trustee remuneration
                Supervision of Scottish Charities
                Ceasing to be a charity
 
Participants will be made up of staff from local voluntary sector Interface agencies, CVSs, VCs and Social Enterprise Networks.  A limited number of places are also to be made available to local authority CLD staff who advise charities.
 
The course is approved by OSCR and as well as the two EVOC trainers delivering the course, OSCR representatives will be in attendance at various points of the training.  All participants will receive copies of the training materials as a pack for future reference and training and this will be kept up to date by EVOC until the end of the SVA Project in September 2011.

MiDAS Training at Dundee Voluntary Action
 
What is MiDAS
 
MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme, organised by the Community Transport Association U.K. (CTA) which promotes a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers. It is a membership based scheme that has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses.

Who organises MiDAS Training and what does it involve?

Dundee Community Transport (DCT) is able to organise MiDAS Tests under their Midas Assessor.  The tests will cover topics such as:

·         Legal responsibilities of a minibus driver
·         Passenger safety
·         Child passenger safety
·         Defensive driving
·         Manual handling awareness
·         Health & Safety awareness
·         Accident and emergency procedures
·         Personal safety for drivers.

The training is in two parts:

Theory - This takes approximately 4 hours and is done in a classroom setting. You then undertake a multiple choice written test.
Practical driving – This will take between 1-2 hours and involves familiarisation with DCT minibus
The classroom based theory part will take place as follows:-

Tuesday 28 September        5 pm – 9 pm    10 Constitution Road, Dundee
Wednesday 10 November   5 pm – 9 pm    10 Constitution Road, Dundee

The practical driving sessions will be organised after this between the assessor and the trainee

Total cost for the training is £75
